Triple treat for legendary Baker

Baker skipped his side to the JBA Trips title.

Gerry Baker shows no signs of slowing down after another excellent year on the greens. The South African legend recently added the JBA Trips to his already crowded trophy cabinet.

The worldclass left-hander may have retired from the international scene but his local competition are all to aware that he still has a hunger and a passion to win whenever he walks onto the green.

In 2023 alone, he notched up two South African titles winning the Mixed Pairs with Hailey Erasmus and then the National Open pairs with Bradley Robinson.

Late last month, he skipped Michael Kandava and Johan van der Walt to the JBA trips title. Quite the achievement considering that Van der Walt is still a novice with less than two years of bowling to his name.

“It was a real team effort. It always is and we had a good time on the greens,” commented Baker.

And his typical demeanour wasn’t to readily accept the praise but rather to point to the future.

“Johan has a bright future. He’s not been playing that long but has a real eye for the game. Many good golfers turned bowlers have the ability, but I think he’s going to be one to watch for sure,” said Baker.
