2025 World Cup

2025 will see an exciting new World Bowls event. The inaugural World Cup will be hosted by Hong Kong, China in November.

It will be a gold sanctioned event on the World Bowls Series calendar and is planned to be played every four years.

Twelve countries are to be invited to participate, the host country – Hong Kong, China plus the 11th highest overall countries from the 2023 World Championships – Australia, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA and Wales.

Format is six person teams – two open women, two open men, two physical or VI paras (one of each gender) competing in singles and pairs making six events in total.

Hong Kong Football Club, one of the most iconic sporting clubs in Asia, recent venue for the World Bowls Indoor Junior Championships, the nearby Craigengower Cricket Club and possibly other clubs in Hong Kong, China will be the venues for this event and a mixture of indoor and outdoor venues will be used.

Playing dates for the championships are Tuesday-Saturday, November 4-8.

3. Structure and Format of the Event

• A Gold sanctioned World Bowls Series event.

• 12 countries are to be invited to participate as follows: host country - Hong Kong China + 11th highest overall Countries from the previous World Championship will qualify and they are: Australia, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA and Wales.

• 6-person teams, 2 open women, 2 open men, 2 physical or VI paras (1 of each gender - 15 points in total) – Singles and Pairs. 7 events in total. Therefore, the composition of players for each country will be a minimum of 6 or 8 (if 2 VI players are selected with Directors).

• Competing countries to be allocated into 2 groups of 6 teams based on a seeding, with top three place getters progressing to the semi-final’s series (Top of pool automatically into semi-finals, 2nd and 3rd placegetters to cross and advance to semi-finals).

• Points will be awarded for the finishing position in each discipline with 12 points for each winner through to 1 point for the last place finisher in each discipline. All points will then be totalled up to determine the overall winner and placegetters.

• Format is for Pairs - 2 sets of 5 ends with a 1-end tie break if sets are equal with a 30 second shot clock and Singles - 2 sets of 7 ends with a 1-end tie break if sets are equal with a 30 second shot clock.

(Format will replicate the 2026 Commonwealth Games).• TV/streaming coverage will occur on each day of play.

• Subject to the receipt of sponsorship support, a prize money pool will be offered and paid to the top 8 placegetters.
