South Africa complete AST mission in style
South Africa’s bowlers are returning from Botswana with seven gold medals following their successful African States Tournament run over the past week.
There was a flurry of gold medals being presented to South Africa on Thursday following the conclusion of the 2024 African States Tournament.
Anneke Scheepers confirmed her position as the country’s leading player by claiming the Women’s Singles title. Shortly thereafter, Scheepers - who has led the South African Fours’ side to consecutive silver medals at the Commonwealth Games - was named Women’s Player of the Tournament.
Scheepers’ pairs teammate Dezi Rosenblatt was named the Ladies Personality of the Tournament. It was not long ago that Rosenblatt received glowing praise following her play during the Hong Kong Open. Her reputation as a top player on and off the green seemingly knows no bounds.
In the Men’s Pairs, Wayne Roberts and debutant Shaun Thomas banked a gold medal. This helped Roberts complete his tournament with the Singles title as well as the Men’s Player of the Tournament.
The KZN star’s sits on top as South Africa’s highest ranked player and these wins will further strengthen his confidence as he joins Scheepers at the World Champion of Champions later in the year in New Zealand.
The 2024 African States Tournament was a roaring success for the South African team as they ended with seven from eight gold medals.
