Bronze for SA Mixed in Hong Kong

World Indoor Bowls

South Africa’s juniors represented the country with pride and managed to secure a bronze medal at the recent 2024 World Bowls Junior Indoor Championship.

Alwyn Martignone & Lezandri Hildebrand flew the flag high all through the event where the next wave of superstars went head to head to battle for medals in Hong Kong.

Both players did well in the respective singles campaigns - Martignone was eliminated in the quarter-finals while Hildebrand battled well in a very difficult section - but it was in the mixed pairs where they enriched their growing CVs.

The pair played consistently well and combined to good effect to advance all the way to the semi-finals before coming unstuck against Australia, the eventual champions.

It was no doubt an excellent learning experience for the young pair, who will be banking the lessons learned from a week of competing against the next generation’s best players.
