In a heartwarming display of community spirit and generosity, Boland Bowls recently made a remarkable contribution to the Nuwerus Old Aged Home in Worcester.

On 9 December 2024, members from 12 clubs across the Boland region came together to donate to the home, bringing joy and comfort to the elderly residents during the festive season.

The donation initiative was part of the Bowls SA Members, Marketing and Women

Challenge, where clubs from Ceres, Robertson, Wellington, Worcester, Hexvallei, Montagu, Lagoon Yzerfontein, Kleinmond, Bredasdorp, Velddrif, and Swellendam responded to the call to give back to the community during this time of year, a season traditionally known for its spirit of giving.

The combined efforts of these clubs, all part of the Boland Bowls network, highlight the power of sports communities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Through their collective actions, members have not only enriched the lives of the residents of Nuwerus Old Aged Home, but have also exemplified the true meaning of community solidarity.

“We are incredibly grateful to Boland Bowls and all the clubs involved for their kind donations. This gesture not only brings much-needed assistance to our elderly residents but also reminds us of the love and care that surrounds us during the festive season, “ said Mrs Esda van der Watt Broekmann, manager of the Nuwerus Old Aged Home.

The donated items, ranging from cash, food, essential supplies to personal gifts, will go a long way in making the holiday season brighter for the residents. The elderly, who often face isolation and challenges, will now experience the warmth and generosity of their local community.

Boland Bowls’ decision to embrace the festive spirit through this donation is a reminder of the importance of coming together, not just to celebrate, but to support those in need. The BSA MMW Challenge has been an outstanding success, and the efforts of these clubs have set a powerful example for others to follow.

As the year draws to a close, this selfless initiative stands as a shining example of how sports clubs can positively impact their communities, fostering an environment where giving is not just encouraged but celebrated.

With the success of this donation, Boland Bowls has proven that, during the holiday season, it is not only the players on the field who matter, but also the people in the community who benefit from the kindness and compassion shown by these dedicated members.
