U30s put in a show

Northern Cape proved too good at the U30 Inter-District tournament

By Bobby Donnelly - BSA COO

The U30 Inter District Tournament, was hosted by North West Bowls and played at Klerksdorp Bowling Club under the eagle eye of Tournament Convenor Harry Peens and his Committee delivered a dazzling and stupendous event. The bright colourful uniforms combined with coloured bowls created a carnival type ambiance, something which the player’s thoroughly enjoyed.

The high fives, praise, words of encouragement, enthusiasm and camaraderie evident on the three well maintained greens was deafening.

Day 1 and day 2 the event was played under bright sunny weather which elicited joy and excitement from competitors, many spectators and managers. Day 3 and day 4 the weather changed to chilly, overcast conditions. This however did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players but rather brought a sense of coziness and togetherness.

There were a total of 40 entries, which is a record for this event. All 20 BSA Districts, for the first were represented. It was wonderful to see the so called smaller districts competing against their “big brother” districts, and winning.

Special mention to the so called minnows Limpopo and Northern Free State who each had 3 sides represented. Thank you too, to Namibia who made the long journey from Windhoek to partake as an Invitational side.

There were many outstanding individual and team performances throughout the week, it would be unfair name individuals. There were 8’s picked up to win a game, a 6 picked up on last end to peel a game, minnow district coming from 9-2 to beat one of the favourites. This tournament had it all.

Congratulations to Northern Cape (Winners), Port Natal (Runners up), Border (Bronze) and Namibia (Bronze) on their consistency
