Junior Nationals boosts interest in bowls

The recent playing of the Bowls South Africa Junior Nationals only further strengthen the view that bowls has a very bright future in the country.

The BSA Junior Nationals was played in March across three age groups U15, U18 and U25 at Orangia Bowls Club and Oud Studente Bowls Club.

The sport continues to grow in the youth age groups as sixteen of the twenty districts entered teams in one or more of the age groups. 

A total of 58 teams were entered: 14 sides in the U15 competition, 21 in the U18 event and 23 in the hotly contested U25 championship. , participated in the Junior Nationals. 

The tournament attracted good media coverage as well as interest from the local community.

On the last day of the tournament, Curro Bloemfontein entertained the players and spectators with a performance from their Marimba band.  This is was enjoyed by all and the bowlers were invited to try their hand at playing in the band. 

It was a wonderful moment where the sport and culture were brought together in a heart-warming moment. It was noteworthy that many bowlers enjoyed their time playing with the band and several band members have asked how they go about playing bowls.
