BSA Women’s Nationals: Fours down to just eight
Only eight teams remain in the hunt to have their name engraved in South African bowls folklore.
It was a busy day in Cape Town as the BSA Nationals whittled the Fours field down to just eight sides.
As sectional play wrapped up and some big names missed out, the knockout round produced some exciting action.
In one of the matches of the day, Colleen Piketh and her George teammates were eliminated by a Western Suburbs quartet led by Di Ahrens. It was a close encounter with Ahrens’ side running out 16-13 winners to book their place in the last eight where they will meet the in-form Constantia side (Moira Standley, Darryll Edwards, Linda Clark and Linda Stringer).
Klerksdorp will be represented in the quarter-finals after Jillian Booth’s side beat Rustenburg 20-11. That leaves Booth playing the Hartenbos side which is led by Esme Kruger.
Kruger and her teammates needed to be at their best as they beat local Durbanville side skipped by Lydia Maritz 19-9.
At the bottom of the draw, there will be just one JBA side left in the hunt for gold as Emme Murphy’s Morningside Country Club face Heather Pembroke (Ferndale). It should be the match of the last eight as both sides are packed with star quality.
